Our next Conference in November is at planning stage, ticket information will be made available nearer the time. We welcome Non Members to join us. We have as our guest speaker, Jacqueline Hyman, an accredited Conservator/Restorer. The topic of the day is Textile Treasures. In the morning Jacqueline will give a talk: “Buried Textile Treasures - Discoveries from Medieval Egypt”. This talk covers the research on a box of treasures which laid forgotten in a museum for nearly 80 years, unique because no other museum has textile items from this time period. In the afternoon there will be opportunity to show your own Textile Treasures and receive advice about conservation and storage.

Exhibitions

The ERTF offers exhibiting opportunities to its Members. We have held smaller events, such as in 2009 at The Warners Textile Archive, Braintree, Essex, Members produced work based on items from the Archive. We also currently (2011/2012) have a touring Exhibition, for which Members made work inspired by Owen Jones, following research meetings. More information on this, see below.

We also hold Selected Exhibitions, where work is submitted to a selection panel for consideration. Photos from past Exhibitions below.

Our next exhibition Eastern Images is planned for February 2014, to be shown in Bishop’s Stortford, Herts. This will be a selected exhibition open only to Members participation. However, new Members are always welcome, if you would like to join us, and would like the opportunity to submit work, we ask that you are a Member by 20th April 2013 and that Membership is held until the end of the exhibition in March 2014. Owen Jones Travelling Exhibition

ERTF Present Owen Jones - an exhibition which travelled around the Eastern Region during 2011/12 with the aim of forging links with museums and galleries.

During 2009/10, ERTF studied the work of Owen Jones both at the Warner Textile Archive in Braintree, Essex and the V&A in London. Owen Jones was an influential 19^th century architect and designer, probably best known today for his publication, The Grammar of Ornament.

Formal study sessions were arranged then members worked on their pieces at their own pace using the inspiration gained from their sketches, photographs and writings worked up during the study sessions. A blog was used to share ideas and thoughts as the participating members were spread throughout the region.

The resulting exhibition is the response ERTF members have given to the decorative designs and motifs of Owen Jones. Some of the exhibits have responded purely to the decorative whilst others have given thought and consideration to his design theories. This makes for an eclectic and diverse exhibition.
